Eco Prototype Residence
Prototype Home for Sustainable Living This home is designed with a very similar concept and vision as the C3Prefab suite of homes; to provide modern, sustainable and energy efficient design that is affordable for a middle income household. The design of this home is a case study to provide housing that is of a much higher quality than is typically seen in speculative development, without sacrificing the amenities a new home buyer expects in an upscale neighborhood. The result is a compact open floor plan, modern detailing, and quality finishes with sustainable features for an affordable price tag. Clear cedar siding, painted metal siding, and cement board panels provide a nearly maintenance free exterior. Interior finishes are budget minded, yet portray an upscale feel when paired with the custom kitchen and fixtures. A cedar clad wall and open steel stair enhance the richness of the interior along with strategically placed windows for opulent natural light. Along with contributions to site water management, water usage reduction, energy conservation, and indoor air quality this project achieves a high level of sustainability within a modest budget. High-efficiency mechanical systems are complemented by renewable energy provided by a solar thermal panel system. This project was designed for LEED Platinum, Chicago Green Homes, EnergyStar, and Indoor AirPlus certifications. This home was third-party tested for a HERS (Home Energy Rating System) score of 52, meaning that its energy efficiency is 48% better than a comparable standard built home. This home was designed as a prototype spec home and is available for customization for a potential homeowner. © Square Root Architecture + Design, Ltd.
