Loma Linda Residence
Historic California Bungalow Renovation into Modern Design This vintage turn of the century historic California Bungalow was in major disrepair when purchased by the homeowners in the 'Inland Empire' region of southern California between Los Angeles and Palm Springs. Perched on a hill overlooking the San Bernardino Mountain Range, and flanked by a public green space, orange grove, and adjacent fault line created unique opportunities and challenges for this picturesque site. The program for this project called for a complete gut rehab of the existing structure alongside a substantial addition to create additional living space for a growing family. A complete update of all systems including Installation of new plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems, including windows, doors, insulation, and siding. The interior of the building was opened up to create more connectedness between the spaces, and allow higher levels of natural light and ventilation to penetrate the core of the building. Future work to include the construction of a new garage with in-law apartment, along with a comprehensive landscaping installation to include pool and patio areas for family dinners and entertaining spaces. The modern use of materials, cabinetry, trim, and color were dovetailed with the existing bungalow details to create a harmonious dialogue of complimentary styles, while retaining the overall California Bungalow aesthetic.
